Ashtead Rotary Club’s partnership with three Rotary Clubs in Europe took a step forward recently with the signing of the ‘Leuven Agreement,’ which enables Ashtead to deliver larger-scale projects for the Village.

The four-way partnership with Arnhem in the Netherlands, Detmold in northern Germany, and Rouen in France means that contributions from the four clubs are pooled each year to enable each club, in turn, to fund a project in their local communities.
Ashtead’s turn will be in 2027 when approximately £10,000 of seeding funds will be made available for a local project. The Club is now seeking ideas from both its members and any external parties interested in supporting Rotary’s service commitments to see how lives can be improved—whether locally, nationally, or internationally.
The three European Clubs have been working together for the past 15 or so years and have delivered projects a variety of project such as …..
Arnhem: Focused on local social welfare, training of street coaches, and recycling bikes.
Detmold: Funded a music school in Burkina Faso and expanded educational programs into refugee camps.
Rouen: Redesigned a hospital waiting room and funded sensory equipment for a school for blind children. They also funded their own driving school to enable job seekers to gain that all-important driving license.
Ashtead Rotary Club President Tony Webb said, “The signing of our arrangements with the European Clubs in Leuven is just another small step towards working with partners who have delivered some very significant projects in their own communities or internationally.
The partnership with our European friends not only provides an opportunity to deliver a larger-scale project but also offers the opportunity to open up Rotary to more local people in Ashtead who wish to serve their community.
Anyone who wishes to serve our community but can ill afford the time to do so should get in touch, as our aim is to make it as easy as possible for you to deliver a significant project here in Ashtead or further afield without interfering with your busy lives.
If anyone would like to get involved—or you would like to get involved with your friends or neighbours - then contact us through our website. If you want to know more about what Rotary and our motto of ‘Service above Self’ are about, then go to this site: About Rotary | Rotary International.”
