ASHTEAD ROTARY VILLAGE DAY PULLS IN THE CROWDS AND RAISES AROUND £30,000 FOR GOOD CAUSES

A great day for Ashtead and good causes.

“Village Day 2026 proved to be a fantastic event, particularly given the involvement of lots of local children from a number of dance schools from in and around the Village and of course Barnett Wood Lane Infants School doing their traditional Maypole Dance" said Ashtead Rotary Club’s President Hilda Williams.

“I am delighted with the outcome and would like to thank our  sponsors Howdens, Home Instead, KNK Group and D&E Roberts as well as Sunbelt Rentals, who contributed so much to our success. We would also like to thank all those local businesses who advertised in our programme - a massive contribution from our community.

“Our stall holders, who ran nearly 100 outlets on the day, also made a huge contribution to the success of the event and it is Rotary’s hope that Village Day positively contributed to their businesses, charities and other enterprises, on the day and for the future.

“Village Day could not be run without the huge effort of a relatively small number of Ashtead Rotarians who give up their time across the whole year to ensure Village Day is a success and earns enough money for us to make a difference by distributing to local and international good causes, my thanks goes to them all.”

Tim Ashton, the chair of the Village Day organising committee said, “It’s always a challenge to run village day, particularly to ensure we have some great acts. All the feedback suggests that the Sing and Dance theme worked well, and was topped with some great acts, including our Abba Tribute Band and the Tanzania acrobatic dance group. We also had great feedback about the local dance groups with Surrey Jive making a huge positive impression on all those who attended.

“I’m now looking forward to Village Day 2027 and to keep going what is proving to be one of Surrey’s largest village events.”

ASHTEAD ROTARY CLUB NEEDS YOU…. Village Day and other service projects can only be undertaken with the help and support of Rotarians and their friends. Ashtead Rotary Club is very keen to bring in the next generation of Rotarians, particularly young professionals who live locally and who feel they can sign up to Rotary’s mantra of “Service Above Self”.

Ashtead Rotary Club Membership secretary and Chair for 2026/27 Nick Drake said, “Most young people, particularly those with young families, will always say that they are ‘too busy’ to get involved. But the modern Rotary way is to ensure maximum flexibility so that all can participate in whatever way they can, assuming they are aligned to our mission of serving the local community using the skill and expertise they bring from their professional lives. So, if you want to make a contribution then do get in touch and we will ensure that you will have a Rotary Club that caters for your requirements.
