14th November 2025
It was an early start for Christmas with the Ashtead Seniors Christmas tea party at the Ashtead Peace Memorial Hall.
Fifty local seniors attended the party which featured Bertie Pearce, magician extraordinaire, who beguiled us with his trickery and kept us laughing throughout with his humorous commentaries whilst dragging in unsuspecting victims to help with his show.
Magic was followed by the serving of the traditional Christmas Tea, comprising large helpings of sandwiches, sausage rolls and cake, with military precision from the highly managed kitchen (i.e. a men free zone!).
The Downsmen Barbershop Choir, who are now becoming a regular feature at this annual party, and seem to be growing in number, took us through a superb selection of songs.
No Christmas Tea would be complete without a visit from Santa who was able to escape the North Pole for a few minutes to hand out Christmas crackers with his customary jollity before leading us into some old favourite Christmas tunes and carols
An exit poll indicated that all had a jolly good time and were looking forward to the next Seniors function run by Ashtead Rotary on February 6th; a screening of the popular film “Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris”.
