Ashtead Rotary Club has ‘twinned’ with three Rotary Clubs in Europe to deliver larger scale projects in their communities.
Working with Rotary Clubs in Arnhem in the Netherlands; Detmold in northern Germany; and Rouen in France, Ashtead will be working with them to identify and deliver larger projects both at home and abroad.
The three European Clubs have been working together for the past 15 or so years, and have delivered projects such as a recycling of bicycles for
° Arnhem: Focused on local social welfare, training of street coaches and recycling bikes.
° Detmold: Funded a music school in Burkina Faso and expanded educational programs into refugee camps.
° Rouen: Redesigned a hospital waiting room and funded sensory equipment for a school for blind children.
Ashtead Rotary Club President Tony Webb said, “The twinning initiative not only provides an opportunity to deliver a larger scale project, but it also offers the opportunity to open up Rotary to more local people who wish to serve their community.
“Anyone who wishes to serve but can ill afford the time to do so, should get in touch as our aim is to make it as easy as possible for them to deliver a significant project here in Ashtead or further afield, without having to interfere with their busy lives. If anyone would like to get involved, then contact us through our website. If you want to know more what Rotary is about then go to this site: About Rotary | Rotary International
“It’s also good that Rotarians in Ashtead will have another opportunity to engage with like minded people in France, Germany and the Netherlands, to deliver the Rotary International’s aim of “Service above Self”.
